Happy Easter from The Shadow Over Portland!

And it's opening day for Rabbit Season....

Oh come on.  I just couldn't pass up that joke, any more than I could pass up using the picture below...

Hippity hoppity HOLY F'ING HELL!

It shouldn't be any surprise that, even though it's Easter, the Pacific Northwest still has lots of great things for Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Fans to do.  We've got lots of great movies, a few stage events and even a con (which I found out about yesterday; sorry Norwescon!) taking place this week.

Even more is coming next month, including appearances by Lloyd Kaufman and Brian Trenchard-Smith at the Hollywood Theatre!  If you want more details on this, or other great events taking place in 2022, visit the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar and start making plans for the rest of the year!!

Artist Repertory Theatre brings The Children, a look at climate change and what, if anything, one generation owes the next, to the Portland Center Stage: Ellyn Bye Studio (128 NW 11th Ave in Portland, OR) through May 15.
 
Stumptown Stages presents Tinderella: the Modern Musical, in which a princess is shown the magic of Tinder by her fairy-god-roommate.  Doesn't sound like a Disney-fied take on the classic fairy tale!  The production runs through April 17 at the Portland'5 Brunish Theatre at Antoinette Hatfield Hall (1111SW Broadway in Portland, OR).

Metalesque Fest will be taking performer applications through June 18.  The festival takes place from September 30 to October 2 at locations in Portland, OR.
 
The Portland Horror Film Festival is accepting submissions for the upcoming festival.  The final deadline for submissions is May 1.

Whether you need a break from your taxes, head over to the Blue Mouse Theatre (2611 N Proctor St in Tacoma, WA) tonight at 10 pm, as Friday Night Frights presents 1983's Mausoleum. Hey, a film about demonic possession will get your mind off most anything!  
 
The Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St in Portland, OR) offers you the chance to revisit the film that likely scarred you as a child, Watership Down, tonight at 7 pm.
 
The Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St in Portland, OR) will show David Cronenberg's Rabid tonight at 10 pm.
 
Head to the work shed... I mean the Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) for a 35th anniversary screening of Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn tonight at 10:30 pm and on Thursday, April 21, at 9:45 pm. 

In conjunction with Janus films, The Grand Illusion (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) will present FREE screenings of David Lynch's Eraserhead at 7:30 pm on Friday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 20. 
 
The 7th Street Theatre (313 7th St in Hoquiam, WA) will show Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory today and tomorrow at 7:30 pm.

Wyrd War is hosting an adult Easter egg hunt, with lots of cool prizes, and a screening of Critters 2: The Main Course at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) starting at 7:30 pm.  Writer, director and podcaster Mick Garris will be in attendance to talk all things Crites after the film.  Doors open at 7 pm.
 
The Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) will show Guillermo del Toro's Nightmare Alley today at 3:45 pm and Tuesday, April 19, and 9 pm.

The Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St in Portland, OR) will host a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with the Clinton Street Cabaret tonight at midnight.  Doors open at 11 pm.

Sunday, April 17

Church of Film presents a restored version of Wan Laiming's 1965 animated film Uproar in Heaven, based on the 16th century classic Journey to the West, tonight at 8 pm.  The screening takes place at the Red Fox (5128 N Albina Ave in Portland, OR) in an covered and headed outdoor area.

The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) is starting special service industry screenings (tickets are $7 if you present your OLCC card at the box office) with the Schwarzenegger sci fi/action classic Predator tonight at 7:30 pm.

The Beacon (4405 Rainier Ave S in Seattle, WA) celebrates Easter with mimosas and the Born Again: An Easter Zombie Mystery Double Feature.  I'll drink to that!

In conjunction with Janus films, The Grand Illusion (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) will present FREE screenings of Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast at 7:30 pm on Sunday, April 17, and Thursday, April 21.
 
Tuesday, April 19

The Beacon (4405 Rainier Ave S in Seattle, WA) will screen Jess Franco's classic Venus in Furs tonight at 8 pm.

Wednesday, April 20

The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) invites you to celebrate 4/20 with a screening of 1970's Pufnstuf, a film based on the trippiest Saturday morning kid's show.  Come on, it's about a boy who blows on a magic flute and is transported to a psychedelic world full of witches and a friendly dragon.  You know the writers had to be smoking something!

Thursday, April 21

Celebrate April Fool's Day a little late as the Central Cinema (1411 21St Ave in Seattle, WA) brings Baron Von Terror to host a screening of the 1986 slasher comedy.

Friday, April 22

The Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) presents a 45th anniversary screening of David Lynch's Eraserhead tonight at 11:30 pm.


Weird Elephant at The Grand Cinema (606 Fawcett Ave in Tacoma, WA) pays tribute to the late William Hurt with screenings of Altered States tonight and tomorrow night at 10 pm.

The Beacon (4405 Rainier Ave S in Seattle, WA) will show David Lynch's last film to date, Inland Empire, through Thursday, April 28.

The coming-of-age horror film We're All Going to the World's Fair plays at The Grand Illusion (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) through Thursday, April 28.  The film will also be shown today and tomorrow, April 22 and 23, at the Whitsell Auditorium at the Portland Art Museum (1219 SW Park Ave in Portland, OR).
 

The Kiggins' Cult of Horror series brings the podcast Horror Movie Talk to the Kiggins Theatre (1011 Main St in Vancouver, WA) to introduce Joe Dante's horror/comedy The 'Burbs tonight at 9:30 pm.

Disney's Descendants the Musical takes to the stage through Saturday, April 30.  This Journey Theater production will be at Fort Vancouver High Schoool (5700 E 18 St in Vancouver, WA).

The VHS Uber Alles April '22 feature is a TOP SECRET CANUXPLOITATION FEATURE!  The hints to the 1987 film include "the biggest, wimpiest scaredy-cat bad guy ever; a legit treasure chest full of guns and ammo; a DIY bullet-proof mask made out of a shovel!"  To find out what the film is, head to The Grand Illusion (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) tonight at 10 pm. 
 
The Denton Delinquents take a break from doing the Time Warp to shadowcast a screening of Tim Burton's Beetlejuice at the Kiggins Theatre (1011 Main St in Vancouver, WA).  Wonder if they'll cause the real ghost with the most to appear by accident?
