Pacific Northwest Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Fans should have a happy holiday this year!

December is full of Krampus events, markets, movies and MUCH MORE!  It's like the holiday demon had a basket full of presents for Pacific Northwest Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Fans!

 

 Well, I had to make room for the naughty children out there.

And while this edition of the Weekly Update might make your heart grow three sizes, you should check out the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar, as I've got more great events happening throughout the month, and into the new year!  Don't miss out on any of the great things coming to the area in 2023!!

The Marvel Universe of Super Heroes makes a stop at OMSI (1945 SE Water Ave in Portland, OR) through April 9, 2023.  Marvel (see what I did there) at the hundred of artifacts, from original comic book pages, interactive displays, life-size statues of Marvel heroes, costumes and props from films and TV programs, and MUCH MORE.  Excelsior! 

The Museum of Pop Culture (325 5th Ave N in Seattle, WA) has Jim Henson puppets and set pieces from the 2019 Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on display now.  You can read about the display, and the work the museum put into displaying the artifacts, at the link.

Friday, December 2

The Krampusnacht Bremerton Stroll takes place tonight starting at 5:30 pm at the intersection of 4th St and Pacific Ave in Bremerton, WA.  Get photos with a bunch/group/collection (I can't find the term for a gathering) of Krampuses, and visit nearly 30 participating business with Krampus themed products and activities.

Torchsong Theater Company brings the parody show Villains and Vixens: Holiday Edition to the Samaritan Odd Fellows Lodge (10282 SE Main St in Milwaukie, OR) Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 2, 3, 4, 9, 10,  and 11.  Suggest for ages 8 and up.

Johnson Farms (89719 Sprague Rd in Eugene, OR) presents Strangest Things Haunted Farm, with 14 mazes/attractions to give your holidays a fright!  The Haunted Farm is open Fridays and Saturdays in December.  Follow the attraction on Facebook.
 
The Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) will show Twilight 9 pm, followed by The Twilight Saga: New Moon at around 11:15 pm.  You can by tickets for a single film, or a double bill ticket and stay for both.

VHS Night at CineMagic (2021 SE Hawthorne Blvd in Portland, OR) will screen Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker (starring Mickey Rooney, who had some unkind words to say about the first film in the series) in GLORIOUS VHS tonight at 10 pm.  The show starts with VHS trailers at 9:30 pm.

Saturday, December 3

The Divine Darkness Market takes place from noon to 5 pm at Defiant Fox Games (602 E 25th St in Tacoma, WA).  Sponsered by Defiant Fox and SubKultures, this event will support The Federal Way Fish and Reptile Rescue, with a variety of rescue pets on site for adoption.

The Vespertine Winter Ball takes place tonight at the historic Kridel Grand Ballroom at the Portland Art Museum (1119 SW Park Ave in Portland, OR).  This is a formal event, focusing on winter white woodland-creatures and the Gothic.  Visit the link to see previous dress, as color isn't as important as presence.  You can follow the event on the Facebook page.


Black Lodge Burlesque: Cabaret Inspired by David Lynch will perform two shows at the Cryptatropa Bar (421 4th Ave E in Olympia, WA) at 7 and 10 pm.  Visit Eventbrite for tickets.

DEVIL-ish Little Things Museum (3409 L St in Vancouver, WA) is hosting a Holiday Sip and Shop event from 11 am to 5 pm today.  The museum will be closed, but you can sip complimentary coffee or hot apple cider while checking out the crafted ceramics, prints and other goodies to purchase.  You might find the perfect gift for someone on your list, or maybe for you!

Wytche Daye, a one day gathering of vendors and community ritual in celebration of the winter solstice, takes place from 10 am to 6pm today at Oaks Amusement Park (7805 SE Oaks Park Way in Portland, OR).
 
Wyrd War presents an encore screening of Suspiria, with a live score by Claudio Simonetti's Goblin today at 3:30 pm at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR).  Advance tickets are recommended, as previous screenings sold out.

Make Believe Seattle: A Genre Film Festival presents the Pacific Northwest premiere of the Christmas Horror comedy The Leech at 7:30 pm tonight at The Beacon (4405 Rainier Ave S in Seattle, WA).
 
No one tell George, but the Kiggins Theatre (1011 Main St in Vancouver, WA) will show The Star Wars Holiday Special tonight at 7:30 pm.
 
The Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St in Portland, OR) is screening Phantom: The Musical Live today at 1 pm.  This is a lavish Korean production of Gaston Leroux's novel, with K-Pop sensation Super Junior's Kyuhyun, world renowned soprano Sunhae Im, and world class ballerina Joowon Kim.  The film, from a performance in the Charlotte Theater in South Korea, runs 177 minutes (with a 7 minute intermission), and is in Korean with English subtitles.

Man, Krampus gets around.  Today, you can have your photo taken with the Christmas demon at the Yuletide Magic Market at Crescent Moon Gifts (6901 6th Ave in Tacoma, WA).  Dress as your favorite fantasy creature, or in your ugliest holiday sweater, and show for the perfect gift for a friend, family membor, or yourself.   
 
A Nottingham Playhouse production filmed live for cinemas during its 2021 run, A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story screens at the Liberty Theatre (315 NE 4th Ave in Camas, WA) tonight.

Wednesday, December 7

The Whiteside Theatre (361 SW Madison Ave in Corvallis, OR) is showing the (two) holiday classic The Nightmare before Christmas tonight at 7 pm.
 
Thursday, December 8
 
The Beacon (4405 Rainier Ave S in Seattle, WA) presents the ultra-gory martial arts splatterfest Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky tonight at 7:30 pm.  The screening is sponsored by the Radio vs. The Martians! podcast as a benefit for the Pacific Northwest Starbucks Workers United labor union.  100% of the admissions will be donated to the union's relief fund. 

The Pickford Film Center (1318 Bay St in Bellingham, WA) will show Batman Returns tonight at 7:45 pm.

Friday, December 9

The Spirits of Christmas Ghost Tours takes place on Friday and Satuday, December 9, 10, 16 and 17.  The tours start proptly at 7 pm at Haunted Oregon City (816 Main St in Oregon City, OR).  Visit the link to purchase advance tickets and get more details.  Please not, this tour is not recommended for those who can't easily walk 1.25 miles.  If you can not use stairs, contact Haunted Oregon City prior to the event, so an alternative route or solution can be found.

The Traveling Vampire Show returns to Dante's (350 W Burnside St in Portland, OR) tonight at 9 pm.  Doors open at 8 pm.

Strange Fellows Brewing (1345 Clark Dr in Vancouver, BC) is hosting Krampusmarkt, an old-world inspired Winter Market hosted by Krampus.  Hours at 6 to 10 pm today, 11 am to 6 pm tomorrow, and 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
 
This might become another Holiday Horror classic!  The Grand Illusion Cinema (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) is showing Christmas Bloody Christmas, where a record store owner must stop a homicidal ROBOTIC Santa Claus from slashing up the town, through Thursday, December 15. 
 
The 1979 Sci Fi/Horror epic The Visitor, about an intergalactic warrior joining a cosmic Christ figure to battle a demonic eight-year-old girl and her pet hawk, will be at The Beacon (4405 Rainier Ave S in Seattle, WA) tonight at 9:30 pm.
 
The Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) will screen a 30th anniversary celebration of Batman Returns tonight at 11:30 pm.

The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) will show Disney's Tron in GLORIOUS 70mm tonight at 7:30 pm.  Yeah, you need to check it out if you can.  It will look AMAZING!

The Grand Illusion Cinema (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) will show the holiday fantasy classic It's a Wonderful Life tonight at 7:30 pm, with additional screenings through Thursday, December 29.
 
Saturday, December 10
 
December Trade Night and Gift Party takes place from 5 to 7 pm at Rogue Toys Portland (10414 SE 82 Ave in Portland, OR).  The raffle prizes will be festively wrapped, and there will be a white elephant style gift exchange (bring a new wrapped toy under $30 to participate). 

Unlock the Con presents Winter Wonderland: A Celebration of Pop Culture today and tomorrow at the Auburn Outlet Mall (1101 Outlet Collection Way in Auburn, WA).  Krampus will be attending the con.  You can follow the event on Facebook.

And we have the first announced screening of the classic holiday film, Die Hard, taking place at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) tonight and tomorrow at 7 pm.  Argue with me all you want, I will forever believe this is the greatest Christmas movie ever made.

The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) is showing 2001: A Space Odyssey in GLORIOUS 70mm today at 2 pm.  I assume this is the version they purchased years ago, and when I saw it, I was BLOWN OUT OF THE BACK OF THE THEATER!  It's gorgeous and you need to see it if you can!!
