Well, it's time to get soggy in the Pacific Northwest

The wet weather is covering The Shadow Over Portland, as I was reminded several times biking to work.  I'm glad I've got good rain gear, both for my bike riding and general walking about, but having fallen leaves clogging storm drains is never fun.  And a sink hole in a driveway outside my apartment seems to be growing deeper, which could result in some unpleasant discoveries.

Like they moved the tombstones, but not the bodies.  Won't be surprised.  Just saying...

But let's get to the Weekly Update, which contains some great ways to get out and have some Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy fun.  If you feel the need to leave your home during the rainy weather, I have some suggestions for you down below.

And, if you want a preview of upcoming events, check out the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar, with events happening during the rest of the year, and into 2025.  Just remember, I'll be continuing to update the site, so keep checking back.  I've got plenty of Krampus events to share in the upcoming days.

Okay, that's what I have for this week.  I'll be back next week with more great films and events happening under The Shadow Over Portland!

Okay, time to get political for a moment...

First off, I'm sorry for not posting a Weekly Update last week, and being so late this week.  The past few months have been difficult, thanks to multiple factors, and I couldn't generate the focus or energy to write.

Now, I've intentionally kept my political views to myself, because the site is about Pacific Northwest Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Events and films.  But given last week's election, and the onslaught of vile comments spewing forth online over the past week, I have to be political for a moment.  I hope I don't have to repeat myself, but I expect the next four years to be interesting times, and I might have to revisit the topic.  But my stance will never waver.

This site is a SAFE SPACE.  This is a site for ALL Pacific Northwest Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Fans, and will continue to be as long as I'm in charge.  I will continue to promote movies and events created by women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people of color, people of religions other than some form of Christianity, and any other group the upcoming administration, and its followers, attempt to marginalize.   I promise, THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE!

If you don't like it, stop visiting my site.  If you feel the need to post vile, hateful remarks, I will delete them as soon as I see them (and I will be more vigilant than before), and will do my best to block you from making further comments.

While I'm at it, anyone claiming white men are discriminated against, your comment will be deleted and you will be blocked.  I'm a straight white man, I know that argument is crap, and I will not put up with it.

Finally, before anyone complains that I'm infringing on their right to free speech, I suggest you READ the text of the First Amendment.  It says CONGRESS shall "make no laws... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press..."  It says nothing about private entities having to allow people to speak through their paper/broadcasts/websites, etc.  So my site, my rules.  Don't like them, don't be here.

I didn't like writing this, but I feel the current political situation gave me no choice. And, to be clear, I'll say it again.  The Shadow Over Portland is a SAFE SITE, open to ALL Pacific Northwest Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Fans.  I will continue to promote films and events from women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people of color, people of religions other than some form of Christianity, and any other group the upcoming administration, and its followers, attempt to marginalize.   I promise, THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE!  And I promise, hatred and intolerance will NEVER be accepted in the comment section.

So, that being said, it's time for a very late Weekly Update.  I wanted to get this published, even though I'll be posting another update in a few days, so you can start planning out your weekend.  And so everyone knows I'm still working on the site and have not gone silent.

In fact, I've got some great stuff posted on the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar, including the start of many Krampus related events happening next month, and the first guest announcement for Crypticon Seattle in 2025.  I've even started posting events happening next October!  Now, some of these events will sell out (like the Cinema of Horrors haunted attraction A Christmas Horror Story, taking place on December 13 and 14), so you'll want to take a look.

That's all I have for now.  Stay safe, have a great week, and I'll be back in a few days with another Weekly Update from The Shadow Over Portland.
