Yes, it's almost Christmas and you might be feeling a bit Grinchy right about now.  After the MONTHS of reminders to be merry and purchase lots of gifts, you might wish you could stop the day from coming.  Or at least get it over with right away.

Oh yeah, we've all thought about the end of the holiday season.
And we've all shared the same smile.

But the rest of the month doesn't have to be so trying, Pacific Northwest Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Fans.  Check out this edition of the Weekly Update for all the cool ways you can hide from the holidays for a while, or at least put a geeky spin on them.

If you still have some holiday shopping, check out Geek the Halls 2017 in Portland, OR and the Oddmall:Emporium of the Weird - Holiday Show for geeky, unusual and unique items from local artists.  You still have plenty of chances to snag a picture with Krampus at several different locations.  Oh, and check out the Haunted Attraction Page for Krampus themed houses!

On the movie side of things, tonight is Weird Wednesday in Tigard, OR, with a film featuring Sonny Chiba battling a bunch of fishmen!  More aquatic horrors hit theaters on Friday, as The Shape of Water opens in time for the award season. The Church of Film is serving up some Christmas Ghost Stories In Portland, OR.  And Vancouver, BC, will have a howling good time at the WolfCop double feature.

Well, it's December and that means Die Hard will be screening in local theaters across the Pacific Northwest.  But this year, the Funhouse Lounge (2432 SE 11th Ave in Portland, OR) is going a bit further by presenting Die Hard: The Parody Musical Fridays and Saturdays at 7 pm through December 30 (with Thursday shows starting on December 21).  Oh yes, it's the movie adapted for the stage, with 15 original songs!  Yippee-Ki-Yay, MF!!!  For more details and advance ticket sales, visit the Facebook Event Page.

The Second City's A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens opens tonight at the Portland Center Stage at The Amory (128 NW Eleventh Ave in Portland, OR) on the US Bank Main Stage.  The show runs through December 31.  This improvisational show is recommended for ages 14 and up, as it contains mature content, explicit language, strobe lighting, theater haze, a single use of a (tobacco-free) e-cigarette and "a Dalek on a conquest for universal extermination."  For more details and advance ticket sales, visit the PCS website.

If you missed it last week, MAP Theatre brings Buffy the Vampire Slayer Trivia Night back to Central Cinema (1411 21st Ave in Seattle, WA) tonight at 7 pm.  Gather in teams of one to five and try to answer 50 questions (the same ones as last week) about the Scoobie gang and their battles against the evil forces lurking around Sunnydale.  Of course, there will be prizes, and you are invited to come in costume (there's a prize for that as well!).  And stick around after the trivia contest for a big screen showing of an episode from the series.  Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 and the door.  For more details, visit the Facebook Event Page.

Weird Wednesday heads under the waves tonight at The Joy Cinema and Pub (11959 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard, OR) for Terror Beneath the Sea.  This one stars Sonny Chiba (really!) up against a race of fishmen!  Yep, that's WEIRD!!  The film starts at 9:15 pm and admission is FREE, but you must be 21 or older to attend.  Be sure to support Weird Wednesday by stopping at the concession stand before the movie for some tasty treats and beverages.  The fishmen don't like it if you try sneaking outside food or drinks into the theater.  You have been warned.  For more details, visit The Joy Cinema website.

Queer Horror ends the year with a 25th anniversary screening of Tim Burton's holiday treat, Batman Returns, in GLORIOUS 35mm, at The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) tonight at 8:30 pm.  The preshow will be a huge drag and burlesque tribute to Catwoman in all her incarnations.  For more details and advance ticket sales, visit The Hollywood Theatre website.

Friday Night Frights brings a little holiday fear to the Blue Mouse Theatre (2611 N Proctor St in Tacoma, WA) tonight at 10 pm with a screening of the campy killer snowman film Jack Frost.  Yep, we're not talking the Michael Keaton one!  Admission is $6 and tickets are available 30 minutes before showtime. Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water opens today.  Cinema 21 (616 NW 21st Ave in Portland, OR) will be one place to catch the film, which looks like a modern masterpiece.  Showtimes have yet to be announced, so check the Cinema 21 website as opening day approaches.
