The move is almost complete, but the Weekly Update is back on schedule!

 

It's amazing to find out how much stuff you really have, and the best way to discover this is to pack it all up.  For the past three weeks, I've been exploring closet spaces, drawers and the like, and am just amazed at what I've found that haven't seen daylight in years.

I was wondering where I put that!

It would have been a great time to figure out what needed to go, but I was running short on time, so everything is in a box, waiting for me to decide its fate later.  Should make unpacking interesting, at least.

Best of all, my new place is only 20 blocks from the Hollywood Theatre here in Portland, so it will be easier for me to catch the monthly Grindhouse Film Festival starting in April.  And as I'm close to a couple of first run theaters, I can get to a new Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy release without having to spend an hour on the bus.  I can't wait!

The second film in John Carpenter's "Apocalypse Trilogy," Prince of Darkness, will play at The Grand Illusion (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) through Wednesday, March 30.

 

McMenimans Kennedy School (5736 NE 33rd Ave in Portland, OR) will show director Mamoru Hosoda's animated film Belle through Thursday, March 31. 

"If Boogie Nights and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre had a baby, X would be their demonic love-child!"  Well, just shut up and take my money!!  The latest from director Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers), X continues next week at the Laurelhurst Theater and Pub (2735 E Burnside St in Portland, OR), Studio One Theaters (3945 SE Powell Blvd in Portland, OR), the Kiggins Theatre (1011 Main St in Vancouver, WA), the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR), the Broadway Metro (888 Willamette St in Eugene, OR), Cinema 21 (616 NW 21st Ave in Portland, OR), and the Salem Cinema (1127 Broadway NE in Salem, OR).  It opens at the Darkside Cinema (215 SW 4th St in Corvallis, OR) on Friday, March 25.

Studio One Theaters (3945 SE Powell Blvd in Portland, OR) will show the Japanese animated dark fantasy Jujutsu Kaisen 0, both dubbed and English subtitled versions, through Thursday, March 31.  The film is also playing at The Grand Cinema (606 Fawcett Ave in Tacoma, WA) and the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) through Thursday, March 31.

 

You can head down the Yellow Brick Road to see him, or just go to Central Cinema (1411 21St Ave in Seattle, WA) and catch The Wizard of Oz on the big screen through Thursday, March 31.

 

David Lynch put allusions to The Wizard of Oz in his script, so it seems fitting that Central Cinema (1411 21St Ave in Seattle, WA) will show Wild at Heart through Wednesday, March 30.

 

Stumptown Stages presents Tinderella: the Modern Musical, in which a princess is shown the magic of Tinder by her fairy-god-roommate.  Doesn't sound like a Disney-fied take on the classic fairy tale!  The production runs through April 17 at the Portland'5 Brunish Theatre at Antoinette Hatfield Hall (1111SW Broadway in Portland, OR).

Radial Theater Project's production of George Orwell's 1984 returns to 18th and Union (1406 18th Ave in Seattle, WA) two years after the theater closed due to COVID.  The production runs through March 26.

The Portland Horror Film Festival is accepting submissions for the upcoming festival.  And, until March 31, the festival is waiving submission fees for woman directors.  You must apply for the waiver here.

The Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St in Portland, OR) will screen Kwaidan, a collection of Japanese ghost tales, tonight at 10 pm.

The Kiggins' Cult of Horror series brings the podcast Horror Movie Talk to the Kiggins Theatre (1011 Main St in Vancouver, WA) to introduce The Exorcist tonight at 9:30 pm.

 

The Mondo Trasho series at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) brings the infamous, and so craptastic, gore cut of Tammy and the T-Rex to the big screen tonight at 7:30 pm.

Capital City Comic Con returns this year to the Victoria Conference Centre and Crystal Garden (720 Douglas St in Victoria, BC) for a weekend of Pop Culture fun! 

UPDATE: Due to COVID concerns, this event has been postponed until September 23, 2022.

The 10th Annual Oregon Ghost Conference takes place this weekend at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center (415 1st Ave in Seaside, OR).

 

Saturday, March 26

Get ready for a major adrenaline boost as the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) screens The Road Warrior in GLORIOUS 35mm tonight at 7:30 pm.

John Carpenter's remake of the 1960 classic Village of the Damned will be at The Grand Illusion (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) through Thursday, March 31.

The International Mermaid Museum (7 S Arbor Rd in Aberdeen, WA) will hold its annual Mermaid Festival through Sunday, April 3.  During this week, admission into the museum is FREE.  Aside from the exhibits in the museum, you'll find a series of special attractions, including performances by Una the Mermaid and MORE!  Follow the museum on Facebook.  

The Pickford Film Center (1318 Bay St in Bellingham, WA) continues the series It's Alive! with the 1932 pre-code horror/comedy classic The Old Dark House today at noon.

Saturday Secret Matinees concludes at the Grand Illusion Cinema (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) with the final chapter of Daredevils of the Red Circle, featuring Charles Middleton (Ming the Merciless) as the villain in this 1939 serial, shown in GLORIOUS 16mm!  Of course, what's a serial without a feature, and each week, the episode will be paired with a secret feature film.  Bi-weekly themes will provide clues, but you have to show up to find out what's being shown!  The fun starts at 1 pm.

The Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St in Portland, OR) will present the "Be It Yourself" edition of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, tonight with a pre-show starting at 11:30 pm.  Doors open at 11 pm.   

The Kiggins Theatre (1011 Main St in Vancouver, WA) will be showing The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 10 pm tonight, with the Denton Delinquents helping everyone do the Time Warp again.  Doors open at 9 pm. 

The Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) and the Geekenders will host The Rocky Horror Picture show tonight at 11:30 pm.  Doors open at 11 pm.

The Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) will show the English dubbed version of director Mamoru Hosoda's animated film Belle today at 12:50 pm.  A final screening, this time in Japanese with English subtitles, takes place at 9:20 pm on Wednesday, March 28.

Celebrate seven years of Queer Horror, and host Carla Rossi's birthday, at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) tonight at 8:30 pm.  It starts with an all-musical preshow, which is followed by the musical horror film about man-eating mermaids, The Lure.

No fooling!  A 2K restoration of John Carpenter's first film, 1974's Dark Star, will be shown at The Grand Illusion (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) through Tuesday, April 5.

Central Cinema (1411 21St Ave in Seattle, WA) will show the fantasy classic The Princess Bride through Thursday, April 7.

Head over to the Rio Theatre as Samuel L. Jackson takes on some "monkey-fighting snakes" on a "Monday to Friday plane!"  Snakes on a Plane hits the big screen once again, tonight at 10:30 pm.

Horrific: A Night of Horror Themed Dance is back from the dead at Alma Mater's Fawcett Hall (1322 South Fawcett Ave in Tacoma, WA) tonight at 8 pm.  Advance tickets are recommended.  You must be 21 or older to attend.
