Okay, the Horror Calendar is where you go to find film festivals, screenings, plays and such. Most of the events on this page will be limited to a few days, though live performances (such as plays) may run for a month.
Haunted Attractions is the page to check for local Haunted Houses and the like. This page will remain open year round, as we have so many different sites to show you throughout the year. New attractions will be listed on the Horror Calendar initially, but check this page if you want to see something spooky in your neighborhood.
The Corn Mazes, Haunted Corn Mazes and Pumpkin Patches will run from September to November, as most of these events are seasonal.
Open Film Submissions is the site to check if you want to submit your horror film to a festival in the Pacific Northwest. Obviously, this page will be open year round, and local open submissions will be featured for a few weeks on the Horror Calendar. But check this page if you are looking to submit your film into festivals in the area.
All these pages are being updated as quickly as I can and, sorry to say, I am behind. Hey, so much is coming, and it's hard to keep up. Check back later in the month for more details and events.
If you haven't friended me on Facebook, please do. I often post links to events on my personal page before they appear on The Shadow Over Portland, so you can keep updated that way. I plan to expand the coverage of this site after October, so stay tuned for the details.

As I mentioned, it could be I'm a bit behind and will get to it soon, or, worse case, I might have missed it. PLEASE contact me and make sure your event wasn't missed. The site exists to make sure Horror Fans throughout the Northwest can find all the cool stuff happening in the area and I will never ask for payments of any type to spread the news.

The Spirit of Halloweentown in St Helens, OR
Also, actress Kimberly Brown (who starred as Marnie in Halloweentown, the Disney Channel Original Movie filmed in St. Helen's) will return to the festival on October 8 and 9. You can find advance tickets for photo ops and other special events at the link.
Should you feel like dressing up as a creature of the night and possibly winning $1,000, sign up for the Creatures of the Catwalk, part of the month long Spirit of Halloweentown celebration in St. Helens, OR on October 9. Also as part of the Halloweentown celebration is the Bonfire and Bones-Scream All You Want! Goth Extravaganza. Oh, Halloweentown (St Helens, OR) just added some of the Scooby Gang to their events. Emma Caulfield (Anya) and Nicholas Brendon (Xander) from Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, will join the festivities. Caulfield will be at Halloweentown for photo shoots on Saturday, October 29. while Brendon will be available for photo shots October 29 and 30. And you can buy group photos! Curse my very early morning day job, because I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! Well, The Hollywood is giving you a second chance to catch this BEAUTIFUL restoration tonight at 7:30 pm. I saw this version on September 24 and it looks AMAZING!!! Don't get me wrong, I love me some 35mm presentations, but WOW! The colors are stunning and the balls never looked better. Instead of pointing out the flaws, the restoration accented the amazing work of director Don Coscarelli and is a shining chrome (ball) example of how to properly restore a film. Frank Capra's wickedly funny classic, Arsenic and Old Lace, comes to The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) today and tomorrow at 2 pm. Cary Grant plays Mortimer Brewster, a writer who finally ties the knot with girl-next-door Elaine (Prascilla Lane) on Halloween. Returning home to tell his aunts (Josephine Hull and Jean Adair) the news, he discovers they are in the habit of ending the suffering of elderly bachelors by serving them elderberry wine spiked with poison.
Add in Mortimer's brother, a killer that looks like Boris Karloff, thanks to a botched plastic surgery by the alcoholic Dr. Einstein (Peter Lorre), and Mortimer's concerns for his own sanity ("Insanity runs in my family, practically gallops!") and you have a great screwball comedy that dips it's toes into the dark side quite often. The H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon returns to spread cosmic horror across Portland. The madness starts at The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) on October 7. For more details, visit the Official Website.
As for guests, director Stuart Gordon will return to the festival. Not only will he present a recording of his new radio play, The Hound, but he'll also be at the 30th Anniversary screening of the director's cut of From Beyond.
Special Guests include John Shirley, S. T. Joshi, A. Scott Glancy, Kenneth Hite, Mike Dubisch, Sean Branney, Andrew Leman, Cody Goodfellow, among others.

Yum, boiled parakeet is on the menu at the 7th St Theatre (313 7th St) in Hoqiuam, WA, this weekend, as the film that started the "hag horror" subgenre, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, screens tonight and tomorrow.
