I hope everyone has a fun, festive and safe New Years Eve, whatever your plans are. And I do hope 2022 is better than the past two years.

Regardless of what the New Year has in store for us, you'll find lots of great movies and stage events within this edition of the Weekly Update to help keep your mind off the idea that green crackers might become a major part of a healthy diet soon.

The current exhibit at Wyrd War Gallery (3505 NE Broadway St in Portland, OR) is No Future
by Nathan McKee. Drawing from classic genre films, McKee re-creates
scenes utilizing layers of cut paper in a distinctive variation of the
Japanese art of kirie. The gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays from 3
to 7 pm, or you can schedule an appointment to tour the gallery. The
event runs through the holidays.

(1411 21st Ave in Seattle, WA) is showing Stanley Kubrick's The Shining through Thursday, January 6. Guess it's still winter if someone's showing that film.
If you think the walk to Mordor wasn't long enough, head over to the Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) for The Lord of the Rings: One Trilogy Marathon to Rule Them All.
This all day event, starting at 11 am, will screen all three films in
their Extended Version. The Rio says you can come in costume, or stay
cozy in your PJs.

Emily Connor and the riffing robots from The Satellite of Love land at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall (1037 SW Broadway in Portland, OR) tonight at 7 pm to crack wise at Making Contact (AKA Joey), the 1985 German fantasy/horror film by Roland Emmerich.

The Whiteside Theatre (361 SW Madison Ave in Corvallis, OR) will show the mystery comedy Clue, starring Tim Curry and Christopher Llyod, tonight at 7 pm.
Thursday, January 6
Night Flight's Attic of Wondrous Things invites you to follow Handsome Hank, demon of the underworld, as he visits his grandmother's attic at the Portland Playhouse
(602 NE Prescott St in Portland, OR). The show will run through
Sunday, January 9, and will have two different, unique shows each day
(except Thursday); the early Sensual and Sultry performance, and the
later Dark and Demonic one. Tickets are on sale now.

The Grand Illusion Cinema (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) will screen See for Me,
a Canadian thriller about a blind woman house sitting a secluded
mansion when thieves seeking a safe haven invade the house. She is
forced to rely on an app called "See For Me," where a volunteer, who is
an army veteran, helps her survive by seeing on her behalf. It sounds
brilliant and, at 93 minutes, won't outstay it's welcome. Showtimes are
Friday, January 7, at 7:30 pm, Sunday, January 9, at 4 pm, and Tuesday,
January 11, at 7:30 pm.

featuring Charles Middleton (Ming the Merciless) as the villain in this
1939 serial, with a new chapter shown each week in GLORIOUS 16mm! Of
course, what's a serial without a feature, and each week, the episode
will be paired with a secret feature film. Bi-weekly themes will
provide clues, but you have to show up to find out what's being shown!
