Special Update: Film tributes to Romero and Landau have been announced in Seattle, WA, as well as in Tigard and Portland, OR..

As I mentioned in the Weekly Update, tributes to George A. Romero and Martin Landau would be coming, and a few theaters have announced tribute screenings.  Here's where you can go to celebrate the lives and works of two great genre talents.

On Tuesday, July 25, Central Cinema (1411 21st Ave in Seattle, WA) presents a tribute screening of Romero's Night of the Living Dead, the film that reinvented not just the zombie genre, but changed the face of horror films forever.  The show starts at 9:30 pm and you can find additional details and advance ticket sales at the Facebook Event Page.

Weird Wednesday at The Joy Cinema and Pub (11959 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard, OR) will also have a tribute screening of Night of the Living Dead at 9:15 pm on Wednesday, July 26.  As with other Weird Wednesday screenings, admission is FREE, but you must be 21 or older to attend.  Be sure to support Weird Wednesday by purchasing up some tasty food and beverages from the concession stand.  For more details, visit The Joy Cinema website.

The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) pays tribute to the late Martin Landau with a screening of Ed Wood Friday, August 18 at 6:30 pm.  Landau won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi in the film.  Advance ticket sales are open on The Hollywood Theatre website.

And on Saturday, August 19, The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) presents a tribute screening of the film some consider to be Romero's masterpiece, 1978's Dawn of the Dead, at 6:30 pm.  Advance ticket sales are open at The Hollywood Theatre website.

This edition of the Weekly Update is dedicated to two genre greats we lost over the weekend.

Man, it was a rough weekend.  In just one day, we lost Martian Landau, a terrific actor with lots of Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy work, and the father of modern zombies, George A. Romero.

I know I'm still thinking about this, and I'm sure many of you are as well.  So I'd like to dedicate this edition of the Weekly Update to both men, and all the contributions they made to the films and television shows we love.  Mr. Landau and Mr. Romero, we will miss you both and we will never forgot you.

I'm going to suggest checking the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar over the next few days, as I suspect many theaters will be paying tribute to these men over the next few weeks, and I'll add them as soon as possible.  Please, if you hear of any events in the Pacific Northwest paying tribute to these two men, please email me at shadowoverportland@live.com and I'll add it to the site.

Below, you want to check out the OMSI 2017 Sci Fi Film Festival, with screenings of old classics and new favorites.  It's an impressive line up, running through August 5, so check out the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar for films coming in August.  You'll also find details on the tribute screening of Night of the Living Dead in Seattle, and many other films and events, both inside and outdoors, to keep you busy through July.

Remember, now is the time to get your October events listed on The Shadow Over Portland.  Just email me at shadowoverportland@live.com with the details and I'll do the rest.  It's easy, and FREE!

And, should you attend any of the events listed below, let the organizers know you read about it at The Shadow Over Portland!!
