It's time for another Weekly Update!

Well, I've got all my boxes unpack after the move, but I still have to figure out where everything goes.  Of course, I just jammed stuff on shelves and into cabinets just to empty the boxes, so finding things can be a bit of a challenge.

 

Yeah, the living room is a work in progress.

But I'm still dedicated to getting the Weekly Update on schedule, as some great Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy movies movies and stage events are happening in the Pacific Northwest.  Here's hoping we get more live stage events and cons in the coming months, and you know you'll find all the details at the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar.

Well, got to go figure out how to arrange my kitchen.  But I'll be back next Friday with more great things happening under The Shadow Over Portland.

Central Cinema (1411 21St Ave in Seattle, WA) will screen Wes Anderson's animated sci fi/comedy Isle of Dogs through Thursday, April 14.

 

Takashi Mikke's musical/horror/comedy The Happiness of the Katakuris plays at Central Cinema (1411 21St Ave in Seattle, WA) through Wednesday, April 13.

 

 

Stumptown Stages presents Tinderella: the Modern Musical, in which a princess is shown the magic of Tinder by her fairy-god-roommate.  Doesn't sound like a Disney-fied take on the classic fairy tale!  The production runs through April 17 at the Portland'5 Brunish Theatre at Antoinette Hatfield Hall (1111SW Broadway in Portland, OR).

The Batman continues at the Broadway Metro (888 Willamette St in Eugene, OR), Studio One Theaters (3945 SE Powell Blvd in Portland, OR) and the Laurelhurst Theater and Pub (2735 E Burnside St in Portland, OR) through Thursday, August 14.

 

Metalesque Fest will be taking performer applications through June 18.  The festival takes place from September 30 to October 2 at locations in Portland, OR.

 

The Portland Horror Film Festival is accepting submissions for the upcoming festival.  The final deadline for submissions is May 1.

The Grand Cinema (606 Fawcett Ave in Tacoma, WA) celebrates the 20th anniversary of The Ring with screenings tonight and tomorrow night at 10 pm.

The Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St in Portland, OR) will screen the BBC special Threads, a nuclear war apocalypse drama, tonight at 7 pm.

Also at the Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St in Portland, OR) tonight is the post World War IV cult film A Boy and his Dog.  Showtime is 10 pm.

 

Catch the greatest exploding head scene ever filmed on THE BIG SCREEN, as the Hollywood Theatre shows David Cronenberg's sci fi/horror film Scanners tonight at 7:30 pm.

The Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St in Portland, OR) will host a special screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show for virgins tonight at midnight.  Doors open at 11 pm.

 

Tuesday, April 12

 

Kung Fu Theater at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) will screen the AMAZING Master of the Flying Guillotine at 7:30 pm tonight in GLORIOUS 35mm.  I know it's martial arts, but I can't not mention a movie where a one armed martial arts master must defend himself against a blind master of the Flying Guillotine.  And yes, that weapon is what you're thinking!

 

Burlynomicon returns to The Coffin Club (421 SE Grand in Portland, OR) tonight at 8 pm.  Advance tickets are recommended, but if you want to risk it, doors open at 7 pm.

Head to the work shed... I mean the Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) for a 35th anniversary screening of Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn tonight at 10:30 pm and on Thursday, April 21, at 9:45 pm.

 

In conjunction with Janus films, The Grand Illusion (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) will present FREE screenings of David Lynch's Eraserhead at 7:30 pm on Friday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 20.

 

Central Cinema (1411 21St Ave in Seattle, WA) will show the action classic Raiders of the Lost Ark through Thursday, April 21.

The 7th Street Theatre (313 7th St in Hoquiam, WA) will show Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory today and tomorrow at 7:30 pm.

Wyrd War is hosting an adult Easter egg hunt, with lots of cool prizes, and a screening of Critters 2: The Main Course at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) starting at 7:30 pm.  Writer, director and podcaster Mick Garris will be in attendance to talk all things Crites after the film.  Doors open at 7 pm.

 

In conjunction with Janus films, The Grand Illusion (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) will present FREE screenings of the horror/musical about carnivorous mermaid sister, The Lure, at 7:30 pm on Saturday, April 16 and Monday, April 18.

The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) is starting special service industry screenings (tickets are $7 if you present your OLCC card at the box office) with the Schwarzenegger sci fi/action classic Predator tonight at 7:30 pm.

The Beacon (4405 Rainier Ave S in Seattle, WA) celebrates Easter with mimosas and the Born Again: An Easter Zombie Mystery Double Feature.  I'll drink to that!

In conjunction with Janus films, The Grand Illusion (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA) will present FREE screenings of Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast at 7:30 pm on Sunday, April 17, and Thursday, April 21.

 

No fooling, I'm back on schedule!

Happy April First, everyone.  Hope you haven't fallen for any April Fool's Pranks today, if that's still a thing.  Is it?  I don't know.  Jeez, I am old.

But one thing I do know.  This is the perfect day for a scary clown picture!

One thing that isn't a prank is this edition of the Weekly Update.  I've stuffed it full of great movies, stage events and even a bit of crazy kung fu mayhem, guarenteed to keep Pacific Northwest Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Fans happy.

Oh, my move is over.  I'm in my new place and enjoying the new neighborhood, but still have A LOT of unpacking to do.  And, best of all, I only had one cheap Halloween themed plate break.  I'll miss the plate, but glad that was the only thing to break.

VHS Night at CineMagic (2021 SE Hawthorne Blvd in Portland, OR) will show Traxx, an action/comedy intended to satirize the 80's action heroes and was sent straight to VHS when the studio heads didn't get the joke, where it's stayed ever since. 

Head over to the Rio Theatre as Samuel L. Jackson takes on some "monkey-fighting snakes" on a "Monday to Friday plane!"  Snakes on a Plane hits the big screen once again, tonight at 10:30 pm.

Morbius will play at  the 99W Drive-In (3110 Portland Rd in Newberg, OR) Friday and Saturday, along with Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Saturday, April 2

Horrific: A Night of Horror Themed Dance is back from the dead at Alma Mater's Fawcett Hall (1322 South Fawcett Ave in Tacoma, WA) tonight at 8 pm.  Advance tickets are recommended.  You must be 21 or older to attend.

 

The Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) will screen the Foo Fighter-starring horror film Studio 666 tonight at 10 pm.

 

Okay, yesterday was April 1, so this could be a belated joke.  But if it isn't, this will be crap-tastic!  The Beacon (4405 Rainier Ave S in Seattle, WA) will screen Unmasking the Idol tonight at 7:30 pm.  What's it about, you might ask.  Well, according to the web site, the movie is about a ninja spy and his martial arts master BABOON SIDEKICK battling a masked villain who pushes elderly women in wheelchairs into A POOL FULL OF PIRANHAS!!  Shut up and take my money!! 

Okay, I just found a poster online and it's AMAZING!

Celebrate the Clinton Street Theater's (2522 SE Clinton St in Portland, OR) 44th anniversary of weekly screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with screenings in GLORIOUS 35mm at 7 pm and midnight tonight.  The event features a live shadow cast by the Clinton Street Cabaret.  Door open an hour before each screening.  Advance ticket purchases recommended.
