Well, this week didn't go as planned...

I didn't get as much as I wanted done during the past week, as I spent my waking hours feeling lethargic and in a hazy brain fog.  Don't know if it was something I ate, the changing weather, or just fatigue from the day job, but whatever cause it really sucked the life out of me.

Or it could have been some sleep demon not letting me get a decent night's rest.

At least I'm feeling much better today, which allowed me to get this edition of the Weekly Update out before Sunday morning.  And I was able to get some work done on the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar adding lots of con news, details on outdoor movies, and plenty other events you won't want to miss (but might if you don't get advance tickets, so you'll want to check it out).  I even posted some opening dates for Haunted Halloween Attractions, so it's a good time to start planning out the rest of your year.  Just keep a few dates open, as I have more to add!

Hidden Worlds: The Films of LAIKA is open at the Museum of Pop Culture (located in the Seattle Center; 325 5th Ave N in Seattle, WA).  The exhibit features never-before-seen artifacts from the Laika production studios, immersive set displays, character interactive and a sneak peek at the studio's next feature, Wildwood.  The exhibit will close after Sunday, August 11.

The 16th Annual Guignolfest 72 Hour Horror Film Contest is taking applications for 2024 now.  You can also watch the trailer on YouTube, and follow the event on Facebook.

The Northwest Flying Saucer Film Festival returns to McFiler's Chehalis Theater (558 N Market Blvd in Chehalis, WA) this September, and will begin accepting submissions of UFO themed shorts, documentaries, animations or music videos from Northwest filmmakers on January 1.  Deadline is August 18, 2024.

The Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy comes to Seattle through Saturday, June 22, at the SIFF Cinema Egyptian (805 E Pine St in Seattle, WA).  This is a 21 and older event.

Wyrd War brings Richard Stanley's sci fi/horror film Hardware to the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) back to the big screen tonight at 7:30 pm.  The screening is a celebration of Portland punk band Deathcharge's first new album in more than a decade, and Wyrd War will have 250 copies of a purple vinyl variant to purchase before and after the film.

The revenge film Thelma, which opens tonight at Cinema 21 (616 NW 21st Ave in Portland, OR: scheduled through Thursday, June 27), is the story of a elderly woman conned by a phone scammer and heads out to take revenge.  The film features the final performance of Richard Roundtree (Shaft), and Oscar nominee June Squibb in her first feature role.  According to Cinema 21, she performed most of her own stunts at 94 years old.  How could I not list this film, as it doesn't matter how difficult the stunts were, she damn well did them when she was 94 FREAKING YEARS OLD!  Good for you, June!!  The Shadow Over Portland salutes you.
