Here's almost TWO WEEKS of goodies to keep Northwest Horror Fans sated during the start of the Most Sappiest Time of the Year!

We all know it's coming.  Peace on Earth, good will toward man.  Unless you like a red Starbucks cup, are willing to admit refugees, or just want to spice up your nativity scene with a few zombies.  Well, fear not, Northwest Horror Fan, I have a series of movie screenings that will add the HORROR into the Horror-days.  And be sure to keep check back at the Horror Calendar, as you know more are coming!

Here's your weekly update from The Shadow Over Portland!!

Friday, November 27

Yipee Kay-yay, Motherf....  Well, you know the rest.  We have our first Die Hard screening of the holiday season at the 7th Street Theatre (313 7th St) in Hoquiam, WA.  And, as most readers know, I always promote what I consider the greatest HOLIDAY FILM EVER MADE!  Sure, I love me some Jack Frost (NOT the family friendly version) and Silent Night, Deadly Night, but Die Hard is the perfect holiday story, as John McClain wins his way back into Holly's heart, and his family's embrace, by BLASTING TERRORISTS IN THE FACE!  Seriously, this is one of the best 80s action films ever filmed, with some AMAZING practical stunts, so don't miss the chance to see it on the big screen!!  The film plays tonight at 7:30 pm tonight and on Saturday, November 28.  For more details, visit the 7th St. Theatre website.

------------

One of the greatest splatstick films ever, Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn, screens tonight at 9 pm at The Capitol Theater (206 5th Ave SE) in Olympia, WA.  Presented as part of the Olympic Film Society Friday Night Fright series, this is the perfect film to see in a theater with like minded fans.  Tickets are $9, $6 for OFS members.  Doors open at 8:30 pm, with the show starting at 9 pm.  Tickets (if available) can be purchased a half hour before the show, and the Mezzanine Lounge will be open to those 21 or older (and yes, ID is required).  For more details, visit the link.

Saturday, November 28

The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd) in Portland, OR, presents an HD presentation (from the acclaimed 35mm restoration) of  the silent classic Nosferatu.  And the screening will be accompanied by a LIVE MUSIC SCORE by Dean Lemire on the Beverly Ruth Nelson Memorial Organ!  Presented in partnership with the Columbia River Theatre Organ Society, the film starts at 2 pm.  Tickets are $10, and you can find more details, as well as a link for advance ticket sales, at The Hollywood Theatre website.

------------

Also at The Hollywood Theatre tonight is the winner of the November This Is Your Theater vote, The City of Lost Children. This film is beautiful, and will be a visual treat in GLORIOUS 35mm!  Concerning an evil scientist compensating for his inability to dream by stealing dreams from children, he is only able to harvest nightmares from his terrified captives.  A circus strongman, added by others, attempts to free his younger brother from the madman and end his evil reign.  Oh, and Ron Perlman is the strongman!  Come on, what could be better?  As of November 19, only 14 more advance tickets need to be purchased to "tip" the screening, allowing it to be shown.  And you know if it "tips" the screening will likely sell out, so buy your tickets now.  More details are available at the link.

December, 2015

Tuesday, December 1

OH MY GOD!  B-Movie Bingo returns to The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd) in Portland, OR, returns with a slice of CHEESY GOODNESS, I Come in Peace.  An alien has landed on Earth and is using humans as a otherworldly narcotic factory.  Only tough guy cop Dolph Lundgren and his partner, played by Brian Benben (no, seriously; I'm not joking here) can keep the alien drug dealer from returning to the stars and starting a grand harvest here on Earth.  I first saw this film on HBO back in the days in OH, IT IS SO AMAZINGLY CHEESY.  And, you can call out BINGO on your ticket and know you beat out everyone else.  But seriously, this movie is so much fun, you might miss a few troupes on your card.  But that shouldn't matter if you're having fun!  The film screens at 7:30 pm, and you can find more details, along with advance ticket sales, at the link.

You found a seat, but you only need THE EDGE.  Head to The Hawthorne Theatre (1507 SE 39th Ave) in Portland, OR, at 7 pm for  The Hour That Stretches.  Featuring Dominique Lamssies, Ken Scholes, Jennifer Robin, Jim Smiiey, Karl Fischer, Nathan Carson and a special guest, this might be the Cosmic Horror event to allow enough insanity to counteract what people consider the most joyful time of the year.  Each writer gets gets a half hour on stage to chill you to the bone, and that should be what the holiday is about.  After all, Dickens wrote a perfect Christmas Ghost Story, so this reading should follow in his footsteps.  There is no cover charge, but show up early so you can get in.  Visit the Facebook Event Page for more details.  Oh, and you must be 21 or older to attend.

Wednesday, December 2

Weird Wednesday returns to it's campy roots tonight with a screening of Vengeance of the Zombies.  European horror star Paul Naschy takes on some lovely zombies in this one.  To find out if Naschy can defeat some sexy zombies, head to The Joy Cinema and Pub (11959 SW Pacific Highway) in Tigard, OR!  The show starts at 9:15 pm and, as always, admission is FREE, so spend a few extra bucks at the snack bar, which serves BEER!  And, you must be 21 or older to attend.  Visit The Joy Cinema and Pub website for more details.

Saturday, December 5

If you're looking to bring the Horror into the Horrordays, check out the 2015 Krampus Luaf, starting at Hawthorne and 33rd in Portland, OR, at 4 pm.  Don't worry if you miss the opening ceremonies, you can follow the route as it weaves about Hawthorne spreading Holiday Fear!  Or dress up and join in the fun!!  For more details, visit the Facebook Event page.

Should the mass marketing of the holiday season lead you to believe your loved ones are turning into emotionless replicants, head to The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd) in Portland, OR, and have your worst fears come to life.  Tonight only, at 7:30 pm, Philip Kaufman's 1978 remake of Don Siegel's 1956 classic, Invasion of the Body Snatchers will play on the big screen.  Featuring Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Veronica Cartwright, Leonard Nimoy and Jeff Goldblum, along with a brief cameo by original star Kevin McCarthy, this film features on of the most chilling final moments in screen history!  Presented by Frak! Theater, tickets are only $8!!  For more details, visit The Hollywood Theatre website.
