To be honest, I didn't expect to be so overwhelmed by all the great Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy films hitting local theaters this summer. And I'm not talking major blockbusters. The indie film scene has been amazing, and some old favorites and cult classics are returning to the big screen as well. And the local drive-ins and outdoor film screenings are showing some great movies as well.
But I've got more than just movies to share. Below, you'll find an original stage production based on Jack the Ripper, some horror themed escape rooms, haunted tours, and where to apply if you want to work at a haunted attraction this October. I've even included some news that will interest filmmakers in this edition.
All that said, I do want to apologize for the updates coming out on Saturday afternoon. And that's not going to change any time soon. I'm dealing with a schedule change at the day job, which has impacted the time I have to work on the site. And my internal clock has yet to reset, so I'm still waking up at 5 am, no matter how late I stayed up, which is making me a bit tired most of the time.
And even I find a way to make things work, my schedule will change once again in mid-August. But at least it will be permanent (I hope).
You know you just jinxed it, dude. If this was a horror film, you'd be dead by now!
But that doesn't mean you have to wait for the update out to find out what's happening in your area. Check out the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar, which I am still able to update every couple of days. Not only is the last two weeks of July covered, you'll find events for the rest of the year, and even into summer 2023!

Michael Powell's 1960 Peeping Tom
killed his career. This story about a man filming the murders he
commits was just too much for critics and the public to handle. Guess
Hitchcock was lucky Psycho came out after this film and prepped
everyone for a new ear of horror films. But now, you can check out
Powell's 1960 classic on the big screen at 4:30 pm tonight only at The Beacon (4405 Rainier Ave S in Seattle, WA).

The march to 100 movies as CineMagic
(2021 SE Hawthorne Blvd in Portland, OR), as the new owners of the
theater celebrate their first anniversary, continues as they screen the
classic horror/comedy An American Werewolf in London at 7 pm, followed by the bloody Hong Kong bullet ballet Revanchist (hope I've got the right poster) at 9 pm. It's not a double feature, but worth checking both out if you have Tuesday off.
Monster Monday at the Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) will screen It: Chapter One, hosted by Buttercup Von Dingus, tonight at 9:30 pm. Expect some trivia and prizes as well!

The AWESOME carp-tastic rip off of George Lucas' classic, Starcrash, starring the lovely Caroline Munro in an amazing leather space bikini, invades the Darkside Cinema
(215 SW 4th St in Corvallis, OR). Showtime has yet to be announced.
Be aware, heckling is encouraged, but don't miss the chance to see this
on the big screen, no matter how you feel about people talking in
theaters. It's crap-tastic and the visual effects are pretty solid (and
amazingly cheesy). And get out your checklist for awesome shout outs
to Invaders from Mars, Ray Harryhausen and, obviously, Star Wars. Yep, you need to see this one.
The Repressed Cinema series at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) will show a restored version of Andy Milligan's sexploitation film Seeds (AKA Seeds of Sin) tonight only at 7:30 pm. Author Jimmy McDonough will be in attendance, with new paperback editions of his Milligan biography The Ghastly One for sale.

The march to 100 movies as CineMagic (2021 SE Hawthorne Blvd in Portland, OR), as the new owners of the theater celebrate their first anniversary, continues with Live, Die Repeat (AKA Edge of Tomorrow),
a Tom Cruise film I have to admit was sunk by the advertising
campaign. It's worth checking out, and plays at 7 pm, followed by the
harrowing cyberpunk film Upgrade at 9 pm. Just a reminder, this is not a double feature, but worth checking out on the big screen.
BECU Drive-In Movies at Marymoor Park will show Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings at Marymoor Park

The thriller Losing Addison, about a twin losing his psychic conection with his brother, will play at the Hollywood Theatre

was shot entirely in the Portland and, aside from actor Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks), features a local cast and crew.
