This edition of the Weekly Update is dedicated to keeping Pacific Northwest Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Fans cool during the latest heat wave!


Damn, it's hot in the Pacific Northwest for the next few weeks.  Here in Portland, we might break our all-time high temperature tomorrow, and that's a day I was NEVER looking forward to.

This will be me walking to the bus tomorrow afternoon.
I'm sure I won't look out of place.

But you don't have to melt away in the coming heat wave, as this edition of the Weekly Update has plenty of ways to stay cool.  From movies and indoor stage events to a Goth river float (and a few outdoor movies, if you feel the need to get outside), The Shadow Over Portland has you covered, even on the brightest summer day!

As you scroll down this page, pause by the Buy Tickets Now section, as the NW Film Center in Portland, OR, has announced two additional screenings of the uncut 35mm version of Suspiria in December.  Tickets for the first screening sold out it just TWO DAYS, so do not miss out again!  You'll also find details on the screenings of Rawhead Rex, 1978's Dawn of the Dead and Ed Wood coming this month at The Hollywood Theatre in Portland, OR.

The NW Film Center (screenings take place in the Portland Art Museum Whitsell Auditorium, 1219 SW Park Ave in Portland, OR) has added two additional screenings of the 35mm, uncut version of Suspiria.  The new showtimes are at 9:15 pm on Friday, December 1, and 7 pm on Sunday, December 3.  Additional tickets for the Saturday, December 2 screening have also been released.  The initial ticket release sold out in two days, so BUY YOUR TICKETS ASAP!  For more details and a link to advance ticket sales, visit the NW Film Center website.



Wyrd War presents the digitally restored official theatrical re-release of Rawhead Rex at 9:30 pm on Saturday, September 23, at The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR).  This film, based on a Clive Barker story, has been hard to see, so don't miss the opportunity to watch it on the big screen.  Advance tickets are now on sale at The Hollywood Theatre website.

Get your inner tube ready and get ready to cool down from the hot weather at the 3rd Annual 'Goth Float' on the Clackamas River, starting at the Barton Campground (19009 SE Barton Park Rd in Boring, OR) at noon.  Be prepared to depart for Carver Park (14888 S Springwater Rd in Oregon City, OR) just 4 miles downriver, by 1 pm.  A shuttle bus will run from one park to the other, so you will be able to easily get back to your car (cost is $5).  Though the Clackamas river is easy to tube on, the organizers strongly recommend life vests (REQUIRED on children) and the use of tubes designed for use on rivers, not pools.  For more details, including parking fees at the parks, visit the Facebook Event Page.
