The Shadow Over Portland: 10/2/22

Well, this turned out to be a bit of a stressful day at The Shadow Over Portland mobile office. I was trying to add a few more events to the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar, when I found I was unable to upload ANY photos. Nothing, not from my computer or a URL.

Yeah, my reaction did freak out a few people at the day job.

I checked and did everything the help site suggested (and I'm sure a few of my attempts to rectify the situation will bite me in the ass at some point), but nothing worked. So I assumed it was my very outdated computer causing the problem, but even my new phone wouldn't upload photos.

I made plans to keep the site running until Blogger solved the problem, which I hoped would be soon. I went the Halloween 2022 page and started adding another haunted attraction. And for some reason, I tried once again to upload a photo. This time, it worked.

After clearing away a few expired events from the calendar, I was able to upload photos again. So now, my best guess is I maxed out the amount of photos I could put on the page, something that's NEVER happened before. Shows you how much great stuff is happening in the Pacific Northwest this month.

And this edition of the Weekly Update is just the start of all the great things happening as the Pacific Northwest celebrates THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR. It's full of great movies, film festivals, stage events and MORE! you won't be able to see everything, no matter how hard you try.

Of course, you could plan things out for the rest of the month, and beyond, by visiting the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar, where I've collected all the cool thing happening through the rest of the year, and into 2023! More to come, so keep checking back.

The H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon is happening this weekend at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR). Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, From Beyond, Castle Freak) is scheduled to attend.

Stumptown Stages brings Little Shop of Horrors to the Portland'5 Winningstad Theatre (1111 SW Broadway in Portland, OR). The production runs through Sunday, October 30.

Pentacle Theatre (324 52nd Ave NW in Salem, OR) presents She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition, a dramatic comedy by playwright Qui Nguyen, Fridays and Saturdays through October 15. You can follow the theater on Facebook.

The Lakewood Center for the Arts (368 S State St in Lake Oswego, OR) brings Blithe Spirit to the stage through October 16. The play follows a novelist who stages a seance to gather material for his next book. Complications arise when he is haunted by the ghost of his temperamental first wife. I just hate when that happens!

Haunted Tours

It's a Halloween Spirit Adventure, as St. Helens native and psychic Kathleen Dering invites you to a spiritual adventure on the main floor of the historic, and haunted, Klondike Tavern (71 Cowlitz St in St Helens, OR) through Friday, October 28. Space is limited, so get your tickets now.

VHS Night at CineMagic (2021 SE Hawthorne Blvd in Portland, OR) presents Unmasking the Idol, featuring a suave ninja master and his FREAKING NINJA BABOON SIDEKICK tonight at 10 pm in GLORIOUS VHS. Don't mis the VHS swap at 9 pm, followed by VHS trailers at 9:30 pm.

Lacy Productions presents Foolish Mortals: A Haunted Mansion Burlesque Cabaret at 8 pm tonight and tomorrow at The Alberta Rose Theatre (3000 NE Alberta St in Portland, OR). You must be 21 or older to attend. Lacy Productions tend to selling out, so advance ticket purchases are recommended.

The Marvel Universe of Super Heroes makes a stop at OMSI (1945 SE Water Ave in Portland, OR) through April 9, 2023. A group of patients at the Sunnyvale Insane Asylum decide to put on an evening of Edgar Allan Poe tales for the public. If you want to see what happens, head to the Western Washington Center for the Arts (521 Bay St in Port Orchard, WA) for The Poe Show. The production runs until HALLOWEEN!

Impact Action Sports (19265 SW Schaber Ln in Tualatin, OR) brings back your chance to stop the zombie apocalypse with The Zombie Hunt on October 14, 15, 16, 17, 28 and 29. You can book a time for you and your friends to take down zombies at the link above.

The HEX After Dark Film Festival takes place this weekend at the Cineplex theater (4700 Kingsway in Burnaby, BC). Over seven screenings, you'll see some of the best international and Canadian independent short and feature horror, sic fi, animated thriller shorts and features.

Kingcon Northwest 2022 takes place today and tomorrow at the Renton Pavilion Events Center (233 Burnett Ave S in Renton, WA). You can follow the event on Facebook.

Torchsong Theater Company presents Sinister Songs and Terrifying Tales with Morticia and Gomez. Yes, the Addams couple wil terrify and seduce you with haunting tunes and macabre tales as you enjoy specialty cocktails, gourmet appetizers and desserts. This is a 21 and older event.

Wyrd War presents Three the Band Way, a trio of films with composer Richard Band in attendance to discuss the impact of music on horror and fantasy films. The show starts at 5 pm with Troll, followed by TerrorVision and From Beyond, and takes place at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR).

Yep, it's just what it sound like: A bunch of costumed racers piloting gigantic gourds through a watercourse on the Tualatin Commons lake. On dry land, you'll find a 5K/10K run, a costume contest, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin golf and MUCH MORE!!
