Yeah, I think I mentioned earlier that my hours at the day job were trimmed a bit (standard for the summer break), but not as much as I thought. As I was getting ready to get this edition of the Weekly Update out, I got a call from my boss. It appears, after cut-and-pasting previous schedules onto the new ones, the fact that I was suppose to work at 9 am was overlooked.
I got the call around 10:30 am, and to get to the job ASAP. Not that I mind the extra hours, so I hopped on my bike and pedaled the 8 miles to work as quick as I could.
Sure, a tornado might have got me to work sooner, but I wasn't really willing to risk the nausea.
As a result, I'm getting the Weekly Update out later than I wanted. Sorry folks, I know there are some great events happening tonight that are coming to you late. But remember, I cut-and-paste off the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar, which is usually pretty updated by Thursday night. If I'm running late with the update, and you want to see what's happening over the weekend, please check it out. You'll also find information and updates on events taking place throughout the rest of the year!

Stranger Things: The Experience comes to a capacious warehouse at 1750 Occidental Ave S in Seattle, WA, through Sunday, August 6. Children under 5 years of age will not be admitted due to content, and anyone under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult. You have to expect some real scares when you enter the Upside Down.
The Wyrd War Gallery (3505 NE Broadway in Portland, OR) spring exhibition, Murder in the Front Room: The Art, Insanity, Scrawlings and Sketches of of Mark DeVito is open every Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 7 pm through June 3. Check out the fan banners, original sketch designs and posters for bands like Metallica, Motorhead, Slayer, The Cult, Twisted Sister, and much more!
Hidden Worlds: The Films of LAIKA is open at the Museum of Pop Culture (located in the Seattle Center; 325 5th Ave N in Seattle, WA). The exhibit features never-before-seen artifacts from the Laika production studios, immersive set displays, character interactive and a sneak peek at the studio's next feature, Wildwood. The exhibit will be open through Summer 2024.
The Museum of Pop Culture (325 5th Ave N in Seattle, WA) has Jim Henson puppets and set pieces from the 2019 Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on display now. You can read about the display, and the work the museum put into displaying the artifacts, at the link.

The Wrath of Becky, the follow up to a film I'd never heard of, but Rue Morgue has some nice things to say about it, is playing at The Grand Illusion Cinema (1403 NE 50th St in Seattle, WA; scheduled through Thursday, June 1). Come on, a revenge flick where a young woman, Becky (Lulu Wilson), takes on a bunch of extremists known as the "Noble Men." What's not to love?
The House of Psychotic Women series at The Beacon (4405 Rainier Ave S in Seattle, WA) will screen Andrzej Zulawski's Possession, starring Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani, through Saturday, May 27.

The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) is pulling out their GLORIOUS 70mm copy of 2001: A Space Odyssey for screenings today at 1:30 pm, and on Monday, May 29, at 7 pm. I caught this a few years ago and it is HYPNOTIC in 70mm. Don't miss it!
UPDATE: The Saturday screening is SOLD OUT, as well as the Monday, May 29 screening at 7 pm, but an additional screening is scheduled for Monday, May 29, at 2:30 pm.
On the other end of the space spectrum, the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) is showing Tobe Hooper's space vampire classic Lifeforce in GLORIOUS 70mm today and tomorrow at 9:30 pm. Sure, it's a bit campy, but it looks amazing in 70mm, better than the DVD version I owned (I now have Scream Factory's Blu-Ray edition, so you know I'm a bit bias). If you've only seen this film on cable or streaming, you need to check it out in a 70mm presentation. It looks AMAZING!
The Denton Delinquents celebrate 10 Years of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Kiggins Theatre (1011 Main St in Vancouver, WA) tonight. Doors open at 9 pm.
