Well, I think I got everything......

Wow, it might be the MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR, but here at The Shadow Over Portland office, it's also the busiest.  Every time I think I've got events covered, something else shows up and I have to update things once again.  And repeat, over and over again until your eyes decide they've had enough.

Yeah, things get rather messy around the office
this time of the year.

Still, I'm always willing to add more to the Horror Calendar, right after I put my eyes back where they belong.  And it's not just movies and film festivals.  Don't forget the Haunted Attractions page, and the Corn Mazes, Haunted Corn Mazes and Pumpkin Patch page.  I'll be working throughout the month to make this the most complete listing of all the awesome events happening in the Pacific Northwest.

But I could use some help.  I'm sure I've missed a few events, so if you know of something that should be on the site, whether you're involved with the event or not, email me at shadowoverportland@live.com and let me know about it!  Please remember, I DO NOT CHARGE for listing events on The Shadow Over Portland.  Really, NO CHARGE!  I do this because I love Horror, as well as sci fi and fantasy, and want to help spread the news to other Northwest Horror Fans.

That said, here's the weekly update, running through October 15.  I'll be adding more events occurring later in the month, so please check back next week for even more events happening across the Pacific Northwest!

Ongoing

Audry II seems ready to take over Portland this Halloween season.  The film version of the off-Broadway play will be shown several times at McMenimun Mission Theater during October, but before that, Portland Center Stage (128 NW 11 Ave in Portland, OR) presents Menken and Ashman's version of Little Shop of Horror on the U.S. Bank Main Stage.  Of course, the film is based on the Roger Corman cult classic, but with musical numbers and a singing plant LIVE ON STAGE!  If you love the film, you don't want to miss this production!!  PCS suggests the production is suitable for ages 12 and up (be aware that children under 6 are not allowed to attend any PCS production).  The show runs through October 16 and you can find more details and advance ticket sales at the PCS website.

The Joy Cinema and Pub (11959 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard, OR) brings Bela Lugosi to Weird Wednesday in the low budget horror film, The Ape Man. Lugosi is a mad scientist (is there any other kind in these movies) who turned himself into an ape man and now needs fresh human spinal fluid to cure his self-inflicted state. Toss in a couple reporters on his trail and a guy in a gorilla suit and you know this one is WEIRD!  The show starts at 9:15 pm and, as always admission is FREE!  Just warning that should you bring in your own food or drinks, you might incur the wrath of some guy in an ape suit.  So help keep Weird Wednesday alive by visiting The Joy's concession stand!  Also, you must be 21 or older to attend.  For more details, visit The Joy Cinema website.

Hey, Portland Horror Fans, are you a bit blue because you missed out on the sold out screening of the digital restoration of Phantasm at The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR)?  Well, The Hollywood is giving you a second chance to catch this BEAUTIFUL restoration tonight at 7:30 pm.  I saw this version on September 24 and it looks AMAZING!!!  Don't get me wrong, I love me some 35mm presentations, but WOW!  The colors are stunning and the balls never looked better.  Instead of pointing out the flaws, the restoration accented the amazing work of director Don Coscarelli and is a shining chrome (ball) example of how to properly restore a film.  If you missed it the first time, DO NOT miss this repeat screening.  For more details, and a link to advance ticket sales, visit The Hollywood Theatre website.

Kung Fu Theater at The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) is also getting into the Halloween spirit with a screening, in GLORIOUS 35mm. of Hammer's Seven Brothers Meet Dracula, starring Peter Cushing!  This is the American version, so some dialog is trimmed, and several scenes of bare breasted women are replayed in mirror image (I assume to meet some quota imposed by the distributor), but it's Kung Fu verses the Undead, and (if it's the version I've seen) it looks great.  For more details, and advance ticket sales, visit The Hollywood Theatre website.

Okay, not sure how to make the connection with the bi-monthy Queer Horror program and Beetlejuice (other than out actor Glenn Shadix's portrayal of Otho), but I'm sure hostess with the grossest Carla Rossi will bring up several points I missed.  Oh, and this screening at The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) is in GLORIOUS 35mm, so that is something you don't want to miss.  The show starts at 9:30 pm with "a special preshow set to get the whole audience jumping in line all the way to the afterlife."  I'm guessing the audience will be invited to "Shake, Shake, Shake!"  Tickets are $9.  Visit The Hollywood Theatre official website for more details and advance ticket sales.
