Wow, a crazy week at the day job and some old man references. Time for the Weekly Update!

Well, damn, this week hasn't been the easiest at the old day job.  Not that it's ever easy, but due to circumstances beyond my control, my normal schedule has changed three times in the past two weeks.  And while I do get three days off now, it's at the cost of working 10 hour days at a new location, pushing carts back and forth across a street.  Just in time for the hottest months of the year!

It all makes me feel like I'm stuck in some wacky time loop.  But instead of being a grumpy old weatherman given the opportunity to better his life and win the girl, I'm more like that bitchy sorority girl getting murdered every night.

Right there with you, Tree.

But while even she has a chance to break out of the loop by bettering herself, that's not my case.  I just get to hang on and hope the events that lead me to this fate change in the very near future.  Which are about the same as a snowball's chances you know where.  I will do my best to keep the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar up to date, and the Weekly Updates coming, but forgive me if I fall a bit behind.

Enough about my life, let's get to this edition of the Weekly Update.  Remember, we're still living in a pandemic, despite what the numbers might show, and a lot of venues are continuing to require masks, offering limited seating and requiring advance tickets.  So be sure to click on the links provided below before you head to any of the events listed to check out the requirements, purchase advance tickets (often required) and get showtimes.

Now, let's get to the screenings Pacific Northwest Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Fans are waiting for!

 

Over at the Joy Cinema and Pub (11595 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard, OR), you can catch the bloody reboot of Mortal Kombat through Monday, June 21.

The Kiggins Theatre (1011 Main St in Vancouver, WA) continues screening A Quiet Place Part II this week.  And on Wednesday, June 23, the theater will present a double feature of A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II, starting at 5 pm.  Also, the Kiggins will pay tribute to the late Ned Beatty by screening the 1978 superhero classic, Superman, on Friday and Saturday, June 18 and 19, and Deliverance plays on Saturday, June 19 at 8 pm. 

The Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St in Portland, OR) will screen The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Saturday, June 19, with the return of the Clinton Street Cabaret shadow-casting the cult classic.  Doors open at 8 pm, with a pre-show, including virgin games, starting at 8:30 pm and the movie starting around 9 pm.

The Granada 3 Theatre (1311 Adams Ave in La Grande, OR) screens the latest in the Conjuring Universe, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, through Monday, June 21.  Man, if that movie doesn't include a clip of Flip Wilson, the filmmakers dropped the ball.  And yes, I'm old, so if you didn't get the reference, just Google it.

Oh damn, Flip Wilson IS in a movie playing this week!   At the 99W Drive-In (3110 Portland Rd in Newberg, OR) you can watch a double feature of Cruella, along with 1979's Skate Town USA, featuring Scott Baio, Ron Palillo (Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives, as well as a little 70s sitcom), Maureen McCormick (Marcia, Marcia, Marcia), Patrick Swayze (yep, the star of Ghost), and comedians Ruth Buzzi and Wilson.  Again, if you don't get any of my old man references, use the damn Internet, like I did when I tried to find out what the hell Tik Tok is.

The Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway in Vancouver, BC) has reopened, and this week you can catch Ridley Scott's sci fi/horror classic Alien tonight at 10 pm and on Wednesday, June 23 at 9:05 pm.  Also playing is the director's cut of Midsommar at 9:30 pm on Sunday, June 20 and Mad Max: Fury Road at 11 pm on Friday, June 25.

The Liberty Theatre (315 NE 4th Ave in Camas, WA) is screening both the latest Disney villain origin tale, Cruella, and A Quiet Place: Part II this week.

As for the rest of June, let's take a sneak peek, shall we? 

Based on the latest information, the Portland Horror Film Festival will take place at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) this year, and horror star Kelli Moroney (Night of the Comet, Chopping Mall) will be the 2021 Bloody Judge.  However, the festival will not start on June 23, and the new dates have yet to be announced.  Stay tuned here for more details, or you can visit the official website or the PHFF Facebook Page.

The Whiteside Theatre (361 SW Madison Ave in Corvallis, OR) will screen Battle Royale on Wednesday, June 23, at 7 pm.  You know you'd rather see this for the hundredth time than watch The Hunger Games on some streaming service.

The Kiggins Theatre (1011 Main Street in Vancouver, WA) brings the horror whodunnit Werewolves Within to the big screen on Friday, June 25.  Wonder if the film has a countdown to let you figure out who the werewolf is?

The Rocky Horror Picture Show returns to the Kiggins Theatre (1011 Main St in Vancouver, WA), along with the Denton Delinquents, to do the Time Warp again on Saturday, June 26!  Purchase approved prop bags at the theater, wear a costume and give yourself over to absolute pleasure.  The doors open and the pre-show begins at 10 pm.  Advance ticket purchases are required.  If you want to bring a bunch of friends and sit together, consider purchasing as a group. 

In upcoming news, local horror filmmaker Joe Sherlock's latest movie, Channel 99, an homage to the late night fare of mid-80s cable and afternoon genre films, has its world premiere at the Whiteside Theatre (361 SW Madison Ave in Corvallis, OR) at 7 pm on Saturday, June 26.  You'll also find details at the Facebook Event Page.
