I suspect this edition of the Weekly Update will be a little late, as I, like many in the Pacific Northwest, found my normal routine disrupted by almost 12 inches of snow dropping in as many hours. Now, anyone living in the Midwest or the East Coast might be think a foot of snow is no big deal. But that's because you live in place where snowfall is measured in feet, not inches, and your city is prepared for such amounts.
But here in the Pacific Northwest, we don't get snow often enough to warrant a fleet of plows and de-icing trucks, so a freaking foot of snow caused major issues for road crews. Adding to the problem was the streets and freeways became parking lots, as people abandoned their stuck vehicles to walked home. The local cab company weren't any help, as they started responding to medical issues, and nothing else. And both the snow and the car-snarled streets caused issues for Trimet, causing bus service to be cancelled on many routes, which I discovered after leaving the day job late Wednesday evening. After an hour and a half standing at two stops, I knew no buses were coming that night.
Big thanks to my friends Latima and Dustin, who took me in and let me spend the past two nights on their very comfy pull-out sofa/bed. Without their kindness, I might have been force to walk home, which wouldn't have been any fun.
This would have been me coming through the door had I walked home Wednesday night.
Or however far I made it.
I know I wasn't the only one stuck in the snow at some point. I hope all of you made it home, or to a friends/family members house, safe and with no injuries. Hey, snow and ice are slippery, and aside from falling, cars sliding or spinning out are a danger when crossing the street.
And while the roads are starting to opening up now, you'll want to use this update to hit the links and see if the venue you plan on heading to is open this weekend. I know quite a few closed down yesterday, and I expect re-openings will depend on road conditions around the various theaters.
If you want to see what's happening later this year, you'll have to give me a few days to properly update the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar. I haven't been able to get too far into new postings beyond this week, but I expect to be caught up on the page early next week.
Well, time to head back to the day job. Stay safe, be careful on the streets, and I'll be back next week with another update of all the events happening under The Shadow Over Portland!

Hail to the King, baby! Okay, it's from a different movie, but it fits the
