It's time for the Weekly Update from The Shadow Over Portland!

It's just a little over a week before Thanksgiving, but that doesn't mean Pacific Northwest Horror fans will be left in the cold.  Nope, I've got a list of events you'll want to attend, from a great Weird Wednesday film tomorrow at The Joy Cinema (Mil Mascaras verse the Aztec Mummy!), some great films coming to The Hollywood Theatre, the screening of Child's Play presented by Friday Night Frights, Beyond the Wall of Fear screening in Salem, and...

What's that?  Oh, you want to see what's happening in December?  You want an early Christmas gift?

Are you SURE you want to see what Santa has in his bag for you? 

Oh, I just can't say no.  So this edition of the Weekly Update includes the current list of events taking place next month, from geeky gift faires to spooky films and spicy holiday burlesque!  Yep, I've found a bunch of naughty and nice events happening under The Shadow Over Portland to share, but be sure to keep checking the Horror Calendar for updates and new events!  You'll even find things happening in 2017!!

Get ready to do the Time Warp again, as Funhouse Lounge (2432 SE 11th Ave in Portland, OR) presents the Rocky Horror Show on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through November 26.  No, I did not forget to add "Picture" to the title, as Funhouse is presenting the stage version of the cult classic.  This live production is for mature audiences only (for obvious reasons).  And don't worry, you can join in and toss some toast at the cast, in true Rocky Horror fashion.  More more deails, and a link to advance ticket sales, visit the Funhouse Lounge website.

The Portland Horror Film Festival is looking for short and feature length films for the 2017 show (June 8 to 10 at The Hollywood Theatre in Portland, OR).  Submit your film before December 24 and save some money on submission fees!  For more details, visit the link.

The extended deadline to submit your extreme short or feature film to Badass III, presented by the Vancouver Badass Film Festival, is January 23, 2017.  This festival takes place at The Rio Theatre (1660 E Broadway in Vancouver, BC) on February 27.  For information on submitting your film, visit the link.

The BoneBat Comedy of Horrors Film Festival, is looking for films "resplendent in Horror and/or Comedy."  The festival takes place on Saturday, April 8, 2017, from noon to midnight at SIFF Cinema Uptown (511 Queen Anne Ave N in Seattle, WA).  Visit the BoneBat Film Festival website for submission details.

PDXtreme Fest, a three day film festival full of Horror, Crime, Gore and MORE, opens Friday, December 2, at The Academy Theater (7818 SE Stark St in Portland, OR) at 4 pm.  It should be a blood-soaked good time, full of great short and feature films!  For a list of the films showing, visit the Facebook Event Page.  Advance tickets are just $30 for all three days, and are available at this link.

Weird Wednesday is going to be ALL SHADES OF AWESOME at The Joy Cinema and Pub (11959 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard, OR) as Monster Kid Radio presents Mil Mascaras verse the Aztec Mummy!  A luchador battling an Aztec Mummy is something you DO NOT want to miss!!  The show starts at 9:15 pm, with an introduction from Monster Kid Radio host (and local podcasting superstar) Derek M. Queer Horror breaks from it's bimonthly schedule for a special screening of Addams Family Values, in GLORIOUS 35mm, tonight at The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) at 9:30 pm.  Hosted by Portland's premier drag clown Carla Rossi, this Thanksgiving edition opens with a flaming Camp Chippewa pre-show featuring Portland's favorite queens.  For more details and a link to advance ticket sales, visit The Hollywood Website

Writer/Director Anna Biller's new comedy/horror/tribute to the Technicolor thrillers of the 60s, The Love Witch, opens tonight at The Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd in Portland, OR) in GLORIOUS 35mm.  A beautiful young witch looking for true love attracts a few too many suitors in her search (the potions and spells don't help).  So when she find true love, things get rocky.  The film plays at 7:15 and 9:40 pm through Wednesday, November 23, with matinee shows at 2:15 and 4:40 pm on Saturday and Sunday, November 19 and 20.  Visit The Hollywood Theatre Website for more details and a link to advance ticket sales.

Local Horror Filmmaker Joe Sherlock brings his latest film to f/stop Fitzgerald's Public House (335 Grove St NE in Salem, OR) for a B-Movies and Beer presentation.  Beyond the Wall of Fear, an anthology style film featuring Lovecraftian horrors, witches, insanity and more,  will screen tonight at 9 pm.  The screening is FREE, so be sure to spend a bit of money for food and drinks to help support this ongoing series.  For more details, visit the Facebook Event Page.

Fans of Hammer Horror in Bellingham will want to be at the Pickford Film Center (1318 Bay St in Bellingham, WA) today at noon for a screening of The Man Who Could Cheat Death, starring Anton Diffring, Hazel Court and Christopher Lee.  As expected, a scientist (Diffring) has discovered the secret to immortality and, decades later, has found love (Court, I assume) a jealous rival (Lee) and the suspicion of the police.  Hey, immortality and mysterious murders always go hand in hand.  Directed by Terence Fisher, this film might not be as famous as Hammer's other productions in the 50s, but it's one you don't want to miss!  Part of the Rocket Sci-Fi Matinee series (presented by Rocket Donuts), tickets are just $3.  For more details, visit the Pickford Film Center website

Get ready to shout "Yippee-Ki-Yay, Mother...."  Oh, you know the rest.  The EMP (325 5th Ave N in Seattle, WA ) kicks off the month of December with a Yippee-Ki-Yay Happy Hour, with old school hip-hop holiday vibe tunes, with clips of 80's holiday movies and television, themed cocktails and other surprises.  Then head for Campout Cinema presentation of the GREATEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE EVER MADE, Die Hard!  Happy Hour starts at 5 pm, with the movie starting at 8 pm.  Your ticket includes admission to the Infinite Worlds of Science Fiction museum, which includes artifacts from the Bruce Willis sci-fi film, The Fifth Element!!  Tickets are $12 and you must be 21 or older to attend.  For more details, and a link to advance ticket sales, visit the EMP Website.

Monday, December 5



Lady Stockholm's Winter Holiday Show takes the stage at the Star Theater (13 NW 6th Ave in Portland, OR) tonight at 8 pm (doors open at 7 pm).  The only LIVING heir of her family manor, Lady Stockholm fronts a band of necromanced musical spirits, as holiday characters tell the story of a lewd and unholy, "Krampus-tastic night."  It sounds great, but there is more!  You can get a picture with Krampus at his photo booth, and take part in a raffle to win a personalized prize from Lady Stockholm by bringing a gift to be donated to the homeless and placing it under her tree (one raffle ticket per person).  Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, with limited VIP tables for $30 a seat.  This is a show for those 21 or older.  For more details, and a link to advance ticket sales, visit the Facebook Event Page.
