Well, this has been an interesting week...

Yes, it's been quite a week for me.  On the bad side, my bicycle experienced its THIRD flat tire in two months.  All three started in the first mile of the bike lane I take going home from work, and only that stretch of road.  Don't know why, but if I have another flat on that road, I've got a (slightly) longer alternate route planned out.  Because it's just too damn cold and wet to walk your bike to a bus stop around 8:30 pm.

On the good side, I actually finished updating the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar on Thursday, rather than late Friday evening.  Which means I'm writing the Weekly Update on Thursday, so my Friday won't be so frantic, as I try to finish everything up during my day job (please don't tell them!).

And on the interesting side...

I've been publishing The Shadow Over Portland since 2010 (didn't realize it's been that long), and this week, for the first time, one of my posts was dinged for violation of Blogger's Community Standards.  So now, my review of The Devil's Rain, which I posted in February of 2020, has an Adults Only button you have to click before you can read it.  I'm guessing someone read the review, found it offensive for some reason and, without bothering to leave a comment, complained to Blogger.

And that's how it is, brethren.  You post something and two years later, someone loses their mind over it.

After reading the Community Standards, I'm a bit mystified as to what part of the code I violated.  Maybe it was just the satanic aspect of the film.  Maybe it was the pictures of the melting cultists (though I've show worse photos).  Or the fact that I mentioned the people backing the film were also involved in some notable adult features.  I did mentioned the films by name, but all the photos in the review were from The Devil's Rain.

I don't understand it, but I'm not going to fight it.  You can still read the review, once you click on the "I'm over 18" button, and I'm assuming most of you are.  And my blog isn't going to lose out on ad revenue, as it's not monetized (and will never be until I can choose the ads).  Nor am I going to change what I do on the site.  I've been doing the same thing for twelve years, and I'm not going to change because someone complained about a two-year-old post.

And while we're at it, get off my lawn, ya damn punks!

That said, let's get to the Weekly Update, full of great stuff happening in the Pacific Northwest.  It might not be as full as last month, but we've got some great films, a con, a new MoPOP exhibit, an online art auction to benefit Planned Parenthood, and MORE!

As I mentioned earlier, the Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy Calendar is up to date for the first time in months.  I've got all the Friday Night Frights features through February, guest announcements for FANEXPO Portland, all sorts of December bazaars and MUCH MORE!  Yeah, I've got all the events to start you planning out 2023!!

Live Attractions

Wyrd War (3505 NE Broadway St in Portland, OR) is hosting an opening reception from 5 to 8 pm today for Witch's Eye: The Camera Lens as Occult Device, The Art and Legacy of William Mortensen.  Curated by acclaimed collector and archivist Stephen Romano, the exhibit features original photographic works of the 20th century master of the macabre William Mortensen, called the Antichrist by Ansel Adams.  The exhibit will be displayed through November 26.

 

The Marvel Universe of Super Heroes makes a stop at OMSI (1945 SE Water Ave in Portland, OR) through April 9, 2023.  Marvel (see what I did there) at the hundred of artifacts, from original comic book pages, interactive displays, life-size statues of Marvel heroes, costumes and props from films and TV programs, and MUCH MORE.  Excelsior! 

The Museum of Pop Culture (325 5th Ave N in Seattle, WA) has Jim Henson puppets and set pieces from the 2019 Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on display now.  You can read about the display, and the work the museum put into displaying the artifacts, at the link.
